In the past months we collected a lot feedback from our developer community regarding our APIs. Today I am happy to announce some big changes we published in the last days.

From now on, we differentiate between Smoobu users who want to connect their own booking engines, websites or individual applications with Smoobu on the one hand and third party providers that develop products for all Smoobu users on the other. The main difference is the authentication process is much easier now than it was before. What is new?

 

New APIs

First I want to introduce the new API endpoints. Four new endpoints leverage our APIs on the next level. Now we offer everything you need to manage your vacation rentals with tech:

Cancel Reservation API

It was always possible to create new Reservations. Now it is also possible to cancel specific reservations in the Smoobu calendar. All you need to do is sending the bookingID of the reservation which should be cancelled to this new endpoint.

Get and Post Rates API

Changing prices is becoming more and more important. Many users want to get the prices from Smoobu to show them on their own website. Other users want to connect their selfmade pricing tool. For all of these we have the Get Rates and the Post Rates API.

Get Apartment IDs API

The unique Apartment ID is the heart of all Smoobu APIs. This endpoint is built to get all the apartment IDs for a specific user. This allows it to handle the mapping on your site much easier.

Get Listing Details API

It’s here where you get the most relevant content of your Smoobu listing. This allows it to show it on your website. For smart pricing tools you find here relevant information to occupancy and location of the properties.

 

Third Party Providers

The biggest change isn’t a new API endpoint. It is the new way to connect third party providers with Smoobu. In the past we built APIs to develop anything for one Smoobu account. Which is enough for the customer who wants to create something unique but which isn’t enough for other companies who want to get access to the Smoobu community. So we changed our perspective and asked ourselves what would we need in their position. The answer was more APIs and easier authorization. I already described the APIs so let me now explain how third party providers can connect their tools with Smoobu users.

How do you get access to Smoobu user’s data.

1. Contact us

Send us a short mail to api@smoobu.com and tell us some details about your company and your product.

2. We list you as a third party provider

As an accepted third party provider you get access to the APIs which are relevant for your usecase. For data protection we don’t give you access to all APIs if you don’t really need them. We decide about your plans in hours and give you access as soon as possible so that you can start developing.

3. User gives access

You get a URL to a page in our software where we describe your product. If a user wants to connect your tool with Smoobu he can connect it on this page with one click. Of course we explain you what you do, what data you need and what part of his data you get access to.

4. Authorization with token

With this token in the header you can use all the APIs for this specific customers.

5. Disconnection

If the Smoobu user doesn’t want that you have access anymore he can click always on disconnect. At this moment we delete the token and all your requests fail showing an “unauthorized”error message.

You see… it is very easy to develop to the Smoobu application. Becoming a Smoobu partner is also very easy. If you offer a commercial product which you want to sell to Smoobu users get in touch with us. We love partnering in technical and commercial ways and help you to reach as many users as possible. List your product in our marketplace and get access to the owners of 30k properties worldwide.

We keep receiving queries from owners of holiday homes who have lost track of their bookings and whose occupancy calendar is one big mess. Booking.com is quite a problem for holiday home owners. There, you can only accept direct bookings. So you no longer have the possibility to manually check each request. The despair is enormous as soon as the first double booking occurs. The landlords then come to us so that we can throw a little more light on the issue.

We then search all bookings from Booking.com, all from Airbnb, all from tripadvisor, roomorama, HomeAway and all of the other channels and bundle them together in the clear cockpit of Smoobu. This is often the first time for the landlord to have all bookings bundled in one central location. The landlords are usually very happy at first sight due to the clear presentation. They are even happier when we tell them that the chaos in booking is now a thing of the past.

The Smoobu Channel Manager automates calendar maintenance. Let me try to illustrate the benefits of Smoobu by using an example:

Suppose a guest books the apartment online via Airbnb. The landlords without Smoobu are now compelled to take immediate action. Since all other portals need to be blocked as quickly as possible, the landlord needs to immediately update his/her rental through his/her PC immediately after booking is made. This means that he logs on all his portals and blocks the corresponding period so that no new bookings can be made from there. A very elaborate and especially boring work. Only when all channels are blocked, can the landlord relax and look forward to receiving the guest. In other words, every new booking causes stress. In the worst case, the landlord gets annoyed about a booking, which is of course absolutely unacceptable for us! Bookings bring new guests, allow you to get to know new people and last but not least bookings also bring money. Bookings are fantastic!

So we have developed a solution that avoids this stress. We introduce Smoobu to the desperate landlords. From now on all their calendars are maintained automatically. Now, when a guest books the apartment on Airbnb for example, Smoobu identifies it and maintains all other calendars. This ensures that a different guest does not book the same apartment at the same time. Interestingly, it does not only work with Booking.com and Airbnb but it also works with all other important channels. It automatically synchronizes channels such as Tripadvisor, Atraveo, Fewo-direkt/Homeaway and many others.

This means the landlord can now rent out stress-free on many booking channels. When he gets the message from Smoobu it no longer brings stress but pure joy. The landlord can also stay quite relaxed in the bed late in the evening without having to worry that a double booking might occur overnight. He can sleep relaxed and look forward to the next guests. So from now on, the landlord is always as happy as his guest.
